Happy 25th Anniversary ... to US!

In February 2018 CAS Engineering will celebrate 25 years in business. What started out as a grass-roots effort … well, actually a "cramped-attic" effort, has grown into what we believe to be the best civil engineering firm in Montgomery County and Washington DC. We were fortunate to be on the forefronts of the infill development and urban renewal movements in both jurisdictions.

Our success can be attributed to valuable long-term relationships with the most talented architects and builders in the area. A sincere "Thank-you!" goes out to each and every one of you.

To our existing clients, our dedicated staff looks forward to serving your engineering needs for years to come. For those of you we have not worked with yet, we hope to collaborate with you in 2018.

New Life for The New Union Garage

Working with highly-regarded urban renewal developer OPaL, CAS Engineering-DC, LLC handled pre-purchase consulting, surveying, permit processing, civil engineering, and construction inspections for the recently completed New Union Garage in Capitol Hill. Starting with a historic, but tired old auto repair garage, the building was extended both horizontally and vertically to encompass 3 luxury condos. The building features a multi-level intensive green roof [Furbish] and a roof-top deck with sweeping views of downtown DC, including the U.S. Capitol Building.

OPaL and CAS are currently completing another adaptive reuse project on historic Adolf Cluss Court, SE, converting an old car barn into two residential units with garage parking and private patio areas. For more information, visit

International (and MoCo) Green Construction Code

On September 19th, 2018 the Montgomery County Council officially adopted the International Green Construction Code for non-residential new construction and additions. The IgCC officially took effect on December 27th, 2018. For more details we’ll defer to Google or your favorite architect.

The Highline at Union Market Starts to Take Shape

After breaking ground in mid-2017 and completing two sub-grade parking areas, construction of The Highline at Union Market, adjacent to the rail tracks and Florida Avenue, NE is moving along well. CAS Engineering-DC, LLC worked with Level 2 Development through entitlements via the Planned Unit Development (PUD) process, and through final design and permitting. This building features ground floor retail and a new transformative public space and sidewalk experience. The Highline will feature a rooftop pool, green roof, and bioretention facilities on and around the building.

CAS is currently working on design and permitting of an adjacent park and pedestrian connection to Union Market. This feature is part of the project’s PUD amentites package. Overall 4,500+ residential units are projected as Union Market transforms into a vibrant pedestrian-oriented neighborhood.

Visit Level 2's [Highline] page for more information and to see their stunning architectural renderings.
